Dragon Pact Rules

Source Draconic Codex pg. 226
A contract is a type of item that magically establishes an agreement between multiple parties and typically grants magical benefits. A dragon pact has no physical substance and can’t be dispelled, altered, or destroyed.

To invoke a dragon pact, both mortal and dragon must agree on terms and conditions of the agreement. Almost all include an agreement to not attack or attempt to kill the other party, even through proxies. Other terms might include not acting against the other party’s allies, maintaining good standing in a certain organization, or remaining dedicated to defending a certain location. The pact remains effective so long as both parties uphold the agreement; if either party breaks the pact, both parties lose all benefits and suffer the oathbreaker’s calamity listed in the pact. A dragon pact is automatically invested and counts toward a character’s limit of 10 invested items.

Dragon pacts end only if both the dragon and mortal parties are slain by their enemies, or if one of the parties dies to protect the other. Even if the dragon and mortal have a common goal, they remain bonded by the pact after they complete it, forever changed. Breaking the oath doesn’t end the pact. Instead, the effects remain with the addition of the detriments from the oathbreaker’s calamity.
